Weekly Dose

Updated: Mar 1, 2023

This week I got the chance to research a famous artist who is well known for his HDR photographs.

Some call him the "pioneer" of the genre of High Dynamic Range photography. Trey Ratcliff is on a somewhat mission to help spread mindfulness to the world through his creativity and photography. A couple cool facts about him is he's running the #1 travel photography blog "in the world" as well has 140 million and more views of his photos on google + around 5 million followers.

As I was researching him and his photos, all his HDR photographs are OUTSTANDING.

I learned what his niche, his main focus in photography is. He focuses on HDR landscapes. He mostly takes nature landscapes but has some cities or villages as well. (L.G#1)

I now understand how I'm able to take HDR photos by researching the steps and which functions to use on the camera while taking these type of images. While I was taking practice photos I had a difficulty with the lighting and not very amused with the lighting on the views. This was around 1:00 pm and it was a cloudy day as well. (L.G#2) This process also taught me a bit more how to use my camera with the different settings. (L.G#3) Down below you will see two images of the notes I took from my research.

  • What progress have you made on your project this week?

This week I have researched a famous well known photographer that is an expert in the area of HDR photographs. With his help on creating a website which he gives information and steps to taking and editing HDR photos. I have went out to practice with the settings and took a few of my own. I am currently editing those photos on Photoshop.

  • What is the most significant thing that you learned from your research this week?

I believe that I can connect with Trey Ratcliff with his photography style. While researching him and his photographs I found them memorizing and absolutely beautiful. I find my style of photography is mostly nature landscape photos but I never tried HDR. So I believe this improves my way of taking photographs.

  • What is a struggle you are facing with your senior project?

The only couple challenges I am facing currently is finding a good area and the right timing to take my photos and being able to edit my photos on my laptop at home.

  • What changes are you making in your project for next week?

Waking up early to take morning light photos and taking a few night time pictures as well. I am also wanting to buy and download an editing software at home.

  • What has been a personal High and Low from this week?

A high will be being able to use a Photoshop software at school and as well learning new functions on my camera. And I low is having a limited area at school to take photos. UNLESS I go hiking in the valley.

  • What are 3 tasks or goals that you will accomplish next week?

Researching another photographer, taking photos using their technique/ style, and lastly having a better understanding of my camera and its different functions.
